Concert Choir
The intent of these music classes is to advance musical proficiency through the preparation and performance of standard choral literature. While the focus of the classes is on the full ensemble experience, the performance of solo and chamber choir literature is emphasized as well. The curriculum incorporates music theory, history, composition, analysis, sight singing, and ear training with the goal of providing students with the opportunity to build individual musical and artistic competency within the ensemble setting. Although music literacy is encouraged, it is not required for participation in the ensemble.
Concert Band
The intent of this music class is to advance students’ musical proficiency through the preparation and performance of standard symphonic band and symphony orchestra literature. While the focus of the classes is on the full ensemble experience, the performance of solo and chamber ensemble literature is also emphasized. The curriculum incorporates music theory, history, composition, analysis, sight singing, and ear training with the goal of providing students with the opportunity to build individual musical and artistic competency. All facets of this rigorous class are assessed through proficiency checks, composition projects, and performance juries. Students must have at least two years of ensemble music making experience as a wind or percussion instrumentalist and be able to read music. A live audition that includes the performance of pre-selected instrument specific exercises and etudes is required.
Orchestra
The intent of this music class is to advance students’ musical proficiency through the preparation and performance of standard string orchestra and symphony orchestra literature. While the focus of the classes is on the full ensemble experience, the performance of solo and chamber ensemble literature is also emphasized. The curriculum incorporates music theory, history, composition, analysis, sight singing, and ear training with the goal of providing students with the opportunity to build individual musical and artistic competency. All facets of this rigorous class are assessed through proficiency checks, composition projects, and performance juries. Students must have at least two years of ensemble music making experience as a string or keyboard instrumentalist and be able to read music. A live audition that includes the performance of pre-selected instrument specific exercises and etudes is required.
